Like many, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. After graduating high school in Penticton, BC, I went to work with my dad crushing gravel for roads and highways which allowed me to travel the province. When I was tired of the “road life” I settled down and started a family. I wanted to stay home with my son while he was young, so I started a daycare out of our house. At one point I was caring for six two-year old boys! While running the daycare, I started taking some online courses and obtained my Administrative and Accounting Assistant certificates. When my son hit kindergarten, I entered the public accounting world and haven’t left. I love helping personal and corporate clients with their books and tax filings so they can concentrate on running their business.
My first accounting job was at a firm in Penticton, BC. I worked there for about four years before my husband’s career took us across the country to Charlottetown. There, I was hired by BDO and worked in their Charlottetown office for two years. Another transfer came up for my husband that brought us to Prince Rupert which is located on the north “wet” coast of BC. It is here where I was approached virtually by the GBA team. It has only been a short time, but I have only positive things to say about this firm. I look forward to a long and satisfying career working with them, for you – the clients, the ones who matter most! Public accounting is never boring, and we are constantly learning, growing, and adapting to this ever-changing world. Every client is unique and no day is ever the same.
When I am not working, I am watching my son play hockey (or whatever school sport team he has joined), running with my dog, and hiking with my husband. We also love to travel. We get very few bright and sunny days here in Rupert, but when we do, we are sure to get outside and enjoy the beauty of the west coast!
